Ensuring the health of children under our care is very important. A clean school environment is a must have.
There are four major elements of the Sanitation improvement program.
1. Rain water harvest systems
2.Hand wash facilities
3. Toilet/Latrine facilities
4. Walkways, grass areas and rubbish cans in the compound
Rain water harvest systems include water tanks, gutters, pvc pipes, concrete seat, and several joints and support hooks. We intend to set up a system of 10 tanks that can tap at least collect 100,000 liters of water. This will be achieved over the years. This year we intend to install three more tanks in addition to the one we have. One 10,000 liter tank system currently costs a total of $1800 to install.

We are located on a high hill and the possibility of getting underground water once failed but we will try again using another method if the Lord provides. Water experts estimated that it would cost us about $9000 to set up an underground water well at the school.
Hand wash facilities need to be placed at different points in the school to help children wash their hands as often as possible. Washing hands with water and soap helps to minimize spread of diseases among children. We currently need about 10 hand wash facility. Each foot operated hand wash facility costs about $100.
Toilet/Latrine facilities are very important in sanitation improvement. The more units the better. For each 20 students it’s recommended to have one unit. Having about 300 students sharing 5 existing units is not good at all. 300 students need 15 units!
We are currently working out plans to set up at least another 5 units before this year ends. To set up these 5 units will take about $3500.
Walkways are very important in the school compound. They help children walk safely even when it rains heavily. Without concrete walkways the compound becomes muddy and very slippery whenever it rains. This keeps lives of everyone at school in danger. It will take us a further $1600 to properly set up walkways and grass areas. And another $300 to set up portable trash cans.
